When Winter Storm Uri hit, Texas wasn’t ready. Most stores were forced to close and when they did open the lines stretched far outside the store. Additionally, water was hard to get and Texans had to boil water for precautionary measures. This led to food disparity for many Texas residents. To combat the problems brought forward by the storm, many organizations started relief campaigns and even the IRS joined in by extending deadlines for storm victims.
But it wasn’t just big organizations providing aid. Individuals also donated food or money to help Texans in need. One such individual was Mr. Breault, who went to the store and bought shopping carts full of groceries. He obtained enough food for 25-30 families for 3-5 days. He then turned the KAC main office conference room and cafeteria refrigerators and freezers into food storages. To effectively distribute the food, a survey was sent to students of KAC to determine who needed food. Mr. Lin helped in the distribution process and Ms. Bernal scheduled families to come and pick up groceries.

When asked about his motives Mr. Lin responded: “I am proud to work at a school where we believe the work we do with our students and families stretches beyond simply ensuring they come to school and pass their classes. I believe that as a community, we have a responsibility to support our families in emergencies that we know significantly impact their living. When Mr. Breault offered to immediately support those families, our front office team was eager to support with communication, organization and distribution.”
Thanks to the actions of Mr. Breault, Mr. Lin, and Ms. Bernal many families were able to get help and the KAC community further reinforces its message of “one team one family”.
