On Friday Oct 14, 2022, the KAC Cardinal volleyball girls celebrated Senior Night with a win over archrival Brave in KAC gym. The night’s defining image came during an emotional ceremony before the competitive game, as senior Zoe Viltz tearfully walked alongside her family celebrating her and her teammates penultimate home game.

While friends, teachers, and family watched the volleyball girls walk down and accept their senior gifts they couldn’t help but be sentimental celebrating one of their biggest accomplishments in the high school journey. After being celebrated the girls got straight into warming up for their game.

During their warm up you could feel the tension between both teams and their desire to win. KAC starters were Naomi Gomez, Camille Rios, Beatriz Tinoco, Karen Reyna, Zoe Viltz, and Karime Perez. Junior Karen Reyna served to start the game and managed to score match’s first point. Although it was close, the Cardinal girls managed to win the first set.

Starting the second set Brave served the ball, but the Cardinal girls scored the first two points before building a lead. The Cardinals were up by 8 points leading to the win, but then Brave started catching up little by little. Yet our Cardinals put up a fight. They needed one more point to win the second set. Fans in the crowd started putting one finger up and getting excited for the Cardinal girls to score the last point. Number 3 scored us the last point of the second match and won the second set for the Cardinal girls.

The Cardinals girls started off the third set by serving the ball and built a four-point lead. KAC Coach DeTosha Hurst repeatedly pushed the girls on in order to make sure they continued to lead the game. Brave tied the score more than once but our Cardinals maintained a lead for most of the set. Junior Kendall Martin finally scored the team’s the last point. It was an amazing moment for the team.

During Senior Night we also introduced the new Cardinals boys volleyball team, and although they lost their first game, they all worked hard in order to have a great start. The starters for the boys team were Alexander Valdovinos, Hector Martinez, Ricardo Torres, Jose Estrada, Raul Zavaleta, and Yahir Cabrera. But overall, the stars of the night were our winning and soon-to-be graduating Lady Cardinals.
