The dribbling of basketballs and squeaks of sneakers across the court can be heard as Coach Carrizales gets his varsity girls ready for their 2022-2023 season.
Last year, the varsity girls were division champions and just a few wins from the regional and state championship games. They’re not satisfied yet, though. Guard Emily Diaz stated that a goal of hers is for the team to “make it to, and win, the state championship and change the basketball program as a whole. The team’s chemistry also seems to be high and effective, with Diaz stating it “makes her feel like she has a second family.”

Furthermore, Captain Genesis Robles said she enjoys being on the basketball team because she gets to see different perspectives of how others view the sport. Robles also weighed in on the importance of being a leader of this basketball team, stating it has taught her patience with others because everyone learns at a different pace. She also stated that being a leader means helping people through difficulties and not just telling them what to do. That’s not the only lesson the team is learning on the court. As her teammate Diaz put it, being on the team has taught her to not to be the first to quit and shown that through hardships that she shouldn’t quit on herself.
