STATE CHAMPS!! BOYS SOCCER GOES UNDEFEATED FOR 1st STATE TROPHY SINCE 2019!!!

The varsity soccer boys have done it. The KAC Cardinals won the state championship on Saturday, April 15 at Round Rock’s against ILT Garland, capping an undefeated season and ending the school’s 4-year soccer championship drought with 2-1 victory!

For all their hard work, Cardinal seniors were rewarded with a trophy and will be recognized with another State Championship banner–Collegiate’s third–to hang in the gym.

The game started at 9 am at the Round Rock Multipurpose Complex fields. Before the game the players on both teams were presented by name in an opening ceremony. After that, the Cardinals wasted no time getting into the right headspace.

The Cardinals started off strong, defending and fighting for the ball. During the first few minutes ILT Garland got close to scoring against the team; however, senior goalie Omar Castro continuously defended every shot. After that the boys got control of the ball and in minute 7′ captain and senior Victor Landin got close enough to the goal to score the first goal putting the Cardinals in the lead. 

After a few failed shots from other players, junior Jorge Hernandez managed to score the second goal during minute 16’ putting the Cardinal boys ahead 2-0 and drawing them closer to the victory they had been craving for so long. 

During the second half at minute 43’ ILT Garland managed to get a penalty in their favor allowing them to score a goal and change the score to 2-1. After this the both teams continued to demonstrate their skills and attempt to score another goal.

When the final whistle blew no one could contain their excitement. The Cardinal boys were now the new TCSAAL State Champions allowing the team to close off their season with an incredible accomplishment. Luis Cano, Victor Landin, Jorge Hernandez, Omar Castro, Kevin Leon, and Manny Lopez obtained state acknowledgements.

KAC has previously won the varsity boys’ state soccer championship in 2015 and 2019.
