Before he departs from Collegiate once and for all, the Cardinal Post had the chance to interview Mr.Breault. Formerly known as Collegiate’s AP Government turned AP Human geography teacher, Breault is a very open minded, confident, and outspoken person and has worked at KIPP for over 10 years!

When asked the reason for his leave, Breault was critical, coming from a dedicated AP teacher. He said, “I think that this organization has changed a lot since the time I’ve started working here at KIPP. An example of this is that we now have policies that homework cannot be graded. We cannot assign homework, and. from my perspective, that’s not how AP classes works. Kids have to have some sort of knowledge coming into an AP class and that’s not what we have here at KIPP because we have a no homework. It causes for me to give more direct instructions and I’m feeding these kids just knowledge and knowledge [rapid fire], where we don’t get to do any fun activities that I’ve planned for. I would prefer more options… I think that we would have happier students and teachers here.”

When followed up with his overall experience at KIPP, Breault said, “There have been some ups and downs, but its become much more stable overtime because of Gonzales and Lopez’s leadership.”

And in inquiries of his next step, Breault responded with going back to his roots as an AP Government teacher, but this time at Ann Richards School For Young Women Leaders (a public all-girls highschool here in Austin).

We asked if there was a favorite moment here at KAC. to which he said that his favorite moment here at KAC was “going into the end of year field lessons and college visits and talking with students and talking about their future, and that really left a big impression on me.”

And in a last chance for anything Breault wanted to say, he was honest, saying, “I look forward to Kipp Texas finding its way, I just don’t know that I agree with the way they’re going about it, but I wish KIPP Texas, the school, and Collegiate the very best.”
