Summer Resources for Underclassmen

As freshman start off their first high school summer, this is valuable time to set themselves up for college and future pathways. Rather than waiting for junior year seminar, they’re eligible for summer programs to get a head start, and this is a compiled list to start any underclassmen off:

Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (chci.org)
Dates:  June 11-16; July 9-14; July 23-28
Pre-requisites: For current 10th and 11th graders
Application Launch: September 22
Deadline: February 15

Is an all-expenses paid trip to Washington experience where Latino high school students will participate in Next Gen’s leadership program.

*I personally have been accepted into this program for this upcoming summer, and I am very excited. If you are accepted, you will receive a phone call before you are sent an email, and you will be added to a group chat. You have to continuously check it because there are many confirmation steps that you have to complete by specific deadlines.*

Dates:  Week of September 10 through the week of November 12
Application Launch: May 8
Deadline: June 15, 2023 (Recommendation due by June 20, 2023)

Rising Scholars | Abilene Christian University (acu.edu)
(Applications are now open!)
Pre-requisites: 9th, 10, 11th graders can apply

Experience college life at Abilene Christian University, in Abilene, TX, or travel with ACU in the destination experience, which allows you to travel to another country or state and earn college credit. At the moment, Santa Fe, New Mexico, is the only location available for the destination experience.

Pre-requisites: Open to all female and no-binary High school students
Application Launch:
Deadline: April 2023

Telluride Association Summer Seminar (TASS) – Telluride Association
(Said to be competitive)
Location: Cornell University, University of Maryland, and University of Michigan
Dates: June 25-August 5
Pre-requisites: Open only to 10th and 11th graders
Application Launch: Mid-November
Deadline: January 4
