Last May, the Kipp Austin Collegiate graduating class of 2023 had the chance to leave early; however, this was only available for the last month of the school year!
As the senior class of 2024 gets closer to graduation, there is so much to do and worry about in order to have a complete and successful year, but this takes lots of work, effort, and stress. As seniors, we need to worry about turning in applications, recommendation letters, homework, and even finding the space to have time to be in a sport and still be successful in school. In addition to doing extra credit work for a good final grade in high school, there is so much stress and anxiety to get over, but the question still remains: why can’t it be over soon?
Why did seniors in 2023 leave in the last 2 weeks?
Seniors last year had 2 weeks left before school ended, and this reason was only possible because it tied with the end of year field lesson, as Ramirez, our principal in residence, has said, “ It was tied to the end of year field lesson. Essentially, you were on into the near field lesson for a week and a half, almost 2 weeks. Due to the fact that the school year was also extended last year, or like a week later, “As a result, seniors had the chance to be with their families and friends and enjoy these last 2 weeks of school left. In addition, Ramirez also adds, “ June 3rd was the last day last year, but because we had grades and other things that were done earlier, and AP testing was also done earlier, seniors were able to have some extended interview or field lessons that naturally resulted into them.”
Will seniors in 2024 have the same chance?
As essential and amazing as it will be for the seniors of 2024 to have the chance to leave early, sadly, this will not be possible for this upcoming year of 2024. Ramirez has brought the case to “ that’s not really going to be the case this year because we’re done on May 24 instead of like June 3.” For this reason, in 2024 we are leaving earlier, so leaving early for seniors will not be available in this case.
What future event can possibly lead to leaving school?
As I talked to Ramirez, he spoke of future programs that could happen. What does he mean by this, you may ask? Well, he was explaining that in the future years, we will try to let students go into programs they choose as a class of their career choice, so they get the experience and environment they will want to be in for the future. This will help them get stronger in what they find interesting and create a better bond with themselves in what they want to pursue after high school.
*Senior advice*
As the seniors of 2024 are soon closing this chapter of their lives, we must enjoy this year to the fullest. Don’t give up, don’t fall down, but if you do, always get back up no matter how hard you fall, trust in yourself, be yourself, and make this your best last year of all!!
Ramirez has said, “ You don’t have to have a final decision. You don’t have to know exactly what it is you’re going to do, but once you walk off the stage, you have to have something that you want to at least try. This is your year of exploration, which will eventually be another year of exploration after this.”
