As more places open up in Austin they go viral on tiktok and people like to go try it. Churro Co Bakery is a latina owned business that opened up earlier this year in april. It is not a new bakery but with the rise of tik tok food reviews it has allowed the small business to expand to new locations and reach new audiences.

However they did not start from there, they actually introduced their idea all the way back in 2014. “Churro Co. is composed of a childhood friend duo that originated from Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. It all started with a shared vision of paying homage to traditional Mexican street foods. After years of planning, taste testing, and exploring; they both had a “eureka” moment one night while discussing what food reminded them of home; “Churros!” was the answer.” Churro Co. Bakery not only has churro’s as given by their name, but some other fun sweets like  “Fruitylicious Cake” Funnel Cake, “Strawberry Marshmallow” milkshake, and “Just Peachy” Matcha.

As we entered the building, we were shocked at how much more beautiful the place was than we had seen on tiktok. We liked how the place was all pink with white marble tables, cute flower vases, and cute neon signs on the wall and mirrors. This decor made the bakery a really cute place to take pictures. The food is also decorated in an aesthetic way which we loved, but something we noticed is that they didn’t have many options. It was kind of the same thing for all, just different toppings or a different flavor. The $8 churros were good and you can stuff them with different flavors. We also tried their $12 funnel cakes but they were not the best; the ice cream added on top was good but we felt like they added too much whipped cream. The final thing we got was a vanilla milkshake but it was a little too sugary and liquidy so it wasn’t the best. If you try this place out we suggest getting the churros because it was the perfect combination of sweet and salty. But if you’re coming for anything other than the churros, then we say it’s not worth it, especially because of the size of the funnel cakes which were too small for it to be $12.

So are tiktok food suggestions actually worth it? Well… for this place it’s really about what you prefer, so unless you have a very sweet tooth, this place might not be the best for you. Still, as the business continues to expand to new locations, we hope to see new items on the menu to give it perhaps a second chance. If anything, we’ve seen comments claiming that their food truck “Churro Co.” located downtown is much better, so don’t let the pretty pink walls, tables, and chairs fool you!
