Unbearable Heat for Athletes!

October, 2023

2023 has been a hot mess leaving temperatures as high as 110℉, most struggle to overcome this heat and ponder when it will end. Hoping for freedom from this heat we take insight on how some athletes respond to it..

Heat this year has been a massive issue for athletes. This is weather that will only worsen as time goes on and we ignore Global Warming. Here we have input from a Junior athlete, Keighten F and Junior athlete, Sophia H, both exceptional athletes(Basketball, Track). We asked Keighten how this weather affects the way you practice and Sophia how the heat gets to you when you compete. Understandably their answers were different, Keight responded with “I wasn’t really hooping at home to practice anymore, this heat just prevents long sessions outside”.  While Sophia said “You really feel the heat when we compete, even on my runs at home it’s irritating”. Given the difference in their sports they share similarities with the heat, whether at home or at competition.

This year 2023 has been an extreme heat magnet, September has been a punishing month Delivering high temperatures of 95℉ and higher it only dropped once to 89℉ as the lowest daylight temperature according to ACCUWeather. Other sources such as World-Weather back these findings showing averages of 90℉. Anyone who went outside can say the weather hasn’t been caring.

With heat or no heat these athletes still persevere forward to show their commitment to KAC and try to be the best out there. Track has seen great success both the girls and boys earning gold.
