On December 2, the five KAC Robotics teams–Archytas, Deus ex Maquina, Dinobyte, Hestia, and Steminists–had their second meet of the season. Led by program director George Ramirez and senior leader Katherin Arriaza, the teams used leadership, good sportsmanship, and honesty and reached new successes for the program.
The meet showcased each team’s hard work and how seriously they take the competition. There were close calls and tense moments, but all five teams pushed through and KAC won four out of five matches.
During the meet, each team takes a robot they have designed and built through inspection. If the robot passes inspection, the team continues in competition to face challenges of varying difficulty.
In the competitions, each team has a mentor or coach to give support and lead when needed. Coach Lauren Burke said, “Each team has a coach that are more guides that are here to build and empower students and support the student leaders to build off for a more fully student-led program.” Teams also relied on student leaders such as senior MD Katherin Arriaza, senior AMD Mercedes Alvarez, and senior Alejandra Larraga, who had exuded gracious professionalism in their teams. As Burke put it, “Gracious Professionalism is when you’re competitive yet still helpful, and how our teams show it is mainly through competitions once a month on Saturdays.”
During the competition, KAC teams were ranked in the top 10 in the league, the best performance KAC has ever achieved in Robotics.
