Music has the ability to convey deep feelings of love, like joy, longing, and heartbreak. depending on our mood, we choose to select music that suits our current emotions. But which albums are best for the season of love? This month at The Cardinal Post, we aim to answer just that.

Valentine’s Day is around the corner and we have a special treat for you and your special someone. This month at The Cardinal Post, we’ll be reviewing 2 love albums that you should listen to for this year’s valentines. I picked 2 albums that I believe capture the essence of valentines, those two being “I Know Im Funny Haha” by Faye Webster and “Everything I Know About Love” by Laufey.

Faye Webster is an American artist from Atlanta, Georgia; She is well known for her tracks “I Know You” and “Kingston” both have over 100 million streams. “I Know Im Funny Haha” is Faye Webster’s 4th album, and has a big theme of romance throughout each track. This album has a very melodic and tranquil sound that Faye Webster states was inspired by the soundtrack from Animal Crossing. Faye Webster captures the audience with her calming voice and soothing instruments, which makes this listen a very relaxing one. The beauty of this album is that its lyrics are open to interpretation, so it’s easy to grow a connection with this album when you can connect the lyrics to your personal life. Music has the power to change our entire mood, and this album is a rollercoaster of emotions. Faye expresses themes of finding love again in “In A Good Way” and switches to losing that love in “A Stranger”. Each track on this album is a catchy one that gets you singing along instantly. Overall, this is an amazing album made by Faye Webster, and I recommend you give it a listen. Also, check out her other discography of music such as “Atlanta Millionaires Club” and her self-titled album “Faye Webster”.

Laufey (pronounced Lay-Vay) is a Grammy-winning jazz artist from Iceland who rose to fame in early 2020 for her unique style of jazz that caught everyone off guard. “Everything I Know About Love”, as it suggests in the name, is an album revolving around the theme of love. Laufey does an amazing job at bringing back jazz into a new modern sound that wonderfully captures the feeling of falling in love. Each track has a slow-paced, peaceful, and mellow sound that is thanks to Laufey’s angelic voice and choice of instruments: piano, guitar, violin, and cello. The lyrics are all perfectly thought out and sound poetic. Every track on this album aims to tell a story about every aspect of love, with tracks like “Valentine” about being afraid to fall in love because then you’d have someone to lose, to songs like “What Love Will Do To You” about how the feeling of being in love changes everyday life. Overall, this is a beautiful album that I 100% recommend you listen to.

Something these artists have in common is that they both have amazing voices that complement their music. These albums express beautiful and saddening stories of love that the listeners at home can connect to. “I Know I’m Funny Haha” by Faye Webster, receives an 8.5/10 for Its catchy tracks, calming instruments, and elegant vocal performance from Faye Webster. “Everything I Know About Love” by Laufey, receives a 9/10 for its Poetic lyrics, beautiful mix of instruments, and Its very unique approach to jazz. I 100% recommend giving these albums a listen because I believe these 2 albums are the best representation of what Valentine’s Day is all about.
