Hattie B’s Hot Chicken opened on February 28, 2024, near South Lamar Boulevard Austin. It has a tremendous welcoming vibe and a great chicken smell that will have you waiting in line which, at the end of the day, is worth it!
My experience there was just as I imagined. I waited outside in line for approximately 20-25 minutes. It went by fast because they provided the menu out there to give you a chance to think about what you would like before ordering. They had the options of sandwiches, wings, sides, snacks, and dessert. Their heat levels ranged from “Southern” to “Shut the Cluck Up,” which was the spiciest. We decided to get “The Sandwich” mild with a side of coleslaw, French fries known as “crinkle-cut fries”, and a Sprite as our beverage. We also got “The Sandwich” hot with a side of their pimento mac & cheese and a soda. We didn’t get the chance to get dessert since they had run out, but I would say that’s a pretty good sign and I would like to go back and try one of their desserts out. Immediately after ordering they were very welcoming and gave us the option to sit indoors or outdoors. We decided to sit inside but we also had a view of the outside which consisted of a patio with tables and a game area in which dogs were allowed in as well!
As we waited, we got to vibe to the music they were playing and had a good conversation. The food took about 10 to 15 minutes to get to our table. Once we received our food, they were very nice by reminding us again if we needed anything else and helping us with anything we needed. Good customer service was there which felt comforting since it was a pretty new place for most of us. Let’s not forget the food; the chicken was very pleasing and juicy and it had a perfect combination with the sauce and pickles that were in the sandwich. To make it better, the buns of the sandwich were very soft with a buttery flavor. In total, we paid about $24 for both meals which is a pretty good price, especially for the quality of food we received. I recommend anyone to come try this new place out with their loved ones and I will for sure be coming back soon to try more food from their menu!
