Victory Through Unity: Girls Soccer’s Dominance

The KAC girls soccer team has been dominating the 23-24 season. Having 19 wins, 6 losses, and 1 tie. But besides the numbers, they are undefeated in both the HCAL and TCSAAL leagues and have a 12-0 in district play.

How many games have been ended early because of the mercy rule (when a game is stopped because a team has a large scoring lead over the other)?

Avila: In 5 games, mercy rule only exist in HCAL games

Who are the team’s leading scorers?

Avila: Leading scorers are Bella Garcia with 40+ goals, Adriana Bernal with 15 goals, and Yanderin Calderon with 12 goals

But it’s not just about losing or winning; it’s about the bond the team has built and all the effort they have put into obtaining victories. “This team is special because it’s a great combination of players who are not only skillful but resilient. They are very selfless and united. ” Says Coach Avila. They have great work ethic and history together. The seniors on this team are true leaders who lead with their play and character.”

But the path to state hasn’t been easy; he says, “The biggest obstacles our team has faced are budget cuts, lack of transportation to and from games, and the lack of a home field to host games on. Not to mention the lack of trainers and other resources. Apart from that, I would say our biggest obstacle is our own focus and play. We know that if we stay united, focused, and keep playing our brand of soccer, we can win it all.”

For those interested in watching the girl’s soccer team in action, playoffs begin April 2nd as they face off with Meridian High for the Austin Championship.
