The Importance of Voting

This year many of us are starting to become adults and find ourselves facing the question: will we vote? It can feel weird knowing that many of us have reached the age as to where we can help determine our country’s direction. We can all have mixed opinions as to who we are rooting for and some might have no interest at all. But what many of us ignore is that our vote does matter. Our votes now determine who will be leading this country for the next 4 years. We want somebody who is going to lead us to success. And although it may seem like we are struggling to get there, if we vote we can push others to do so as well and we can make change as well as history.

Social Studies teacher Erica Massey says, “I do believe that our vote has an impact. Maybe not on an individual scale, but at large, we do have the ability to change the direction of our county, and in a way what we believe in.” When asked why she believed young people should vote she replied, “I believe it’s the young people who are more in tune with the times. Also, the future does belong to the young people, and the changes that they make today are what’s going to impact them and their future families, and it helps shape the future.” She agreed with the idea that voting is important for our future and the way that we live our lives.

Ms. Massey is right. If you have the chance to vote, go and do so. You could make a great change in the lives of everybody else and yourself.  By doing so you can form our future to be the best it can be and allow for a better future for those we might care about. When you get to vote don’t just think of yourself, think about those around you, the people you care about. How will your decisions today affect those that you love?

Go vote while you have the chance. You never know if you could do something great.
