KAC students brought their school spirit to life during Spirit Week, held in the last week of October. The campus was buzzing with excitement as everyone joined in on the fun, showcasing their creativity with wild outfits, themed days, and a friendly dose of competition. It was a week filled with energy, laughter, and plenty of school pride at KAC!

Spirit Week is a celebration of KAC’s vibrant creative culture, highlighting students’ individuality and intellectual spirit. Through their unique outfits, students express their diverse personalities and creative flair.

The first day of spirit week students dove headfirst into the theme of soccer mom VS. BBQ dad. It was, without a doubt, the day with the most participation. The campus was alive with students decked out in the most hilarious and over the top outfits. On one side, you had the BBQ dads: they strutted through the hallways in aprons with slogans like “kiss the chef”, sunglasses, hats to the side, and fake facial hair. The baggy shorts, flip-flops, and cooking utensils hanging from their apron pockets completed the look. On the flip side, there were the soccer moms-students who embraced the athletic aesthetic, wearing sleek Lululemon jackets, leggings, fanny packs, and sunglasses, channeling the essence of a soccer mom who just finished a game and heading to a pilates class.

On Tuesday, the school’s hallways were filled with pairs of students who were perfectly matched, not just in outfits but school spirit as well. It was twin day, and the excitement was tangible. Some students choose to dress as recognizable pairs, like thing 1 and thing 2 from ‘The Cat in the Hat,’ while others went for a more personal touch, teaming their closest friends and significant others to create coordinated outfits. The synchronized outfits brought a sense of fellowship to the school. The atmosphere was filled with smiles and laughter as pairs posed for pictures that reflected true friendship.

Wednesday was one of the most amusing days of spirit week, as it challenged students to dress as someone from another stage of life. Freshmen, eager to embrace their youth, showed up dressed as babies. Sophomores took it up a notch by dressing up as toddlers with little tutus, pigtails that replicate themselves from the past. Juniors, determined to appear more mature, opted for adult costumes, some even wearing business attire, while others dressed just as themselves to reflect their essence of their youth years. Finally, the seniors took the concept to a whole new level, transforming into senior citizens with gray hair, canes/walkers, knit wear, and glasses. Some seniors even used makeup to age themselves, drawing wrinkles and frowns on themselves. The whole school erupted in laughter at the sight of these “older” versions of themselves, and it was a fun way to reflect on how far they had come in their high school journey.

By Thursday, everyone was in full swing. Spirit Week had hit its peak with Halloween day, where students dressed up as their favorite fictional characters. It was a glorious mashup of pop culture icons, from superheroes to classic movie characters. The most memorable moment, however, wasn’t just the students’ costumes, but the fact that the school’s APs (Assistant Principals) decided to join in on the fun. They came to school dressed as the Super Mario Bros crew, with each AP adopting the persona of Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Bowser.

The sight of these authority figures donning red and green overalls, and hats was nothing short of hilarious, but what made it even more entertaining was when the APs-fully in character-began to race around the school in a playful homage to the video game. The entire school watched in awe as the “Super Mario” crew sprinted down the hallways, and playfully bantered like they were in a real Mario Kart race. It was a moment of pure joy and whimsy, one that everyone would remember for years to come.

The senior class devoted their time and effort to carefully planning Spirit Week, ensuring that KAC students could fully enjoy the festivities. Their goal was realized, as many students, including Senior Doris Mena, shared, ‘I was able to embrace the opportunity to express my creativity and confidence through school pride.’
