Parked in the heart of Austin, Chic Chic Cafe is a coffee truck that has recently been gaining a lot of attention on social media. It is especially known for its mango sticky rice matcha and Dubai chocolate-covered strawberries. Because of all the hype and positive reviews, we decided to visit and see if it truly lived up to the buzz. It is located at 4101 S 1st St, Austin, TX 78745.
When we arrived, it was not too busy and parking was fairly easy to find. However, there is a thrift store right next to the truck, so on busier days parking could become difficult since the area is somewhat tight. Surprisingly, there was no wait and no line when we ordered.
We ordered four items: a banana bread iced latte, a Lucky Charms latte, a chocolate croissant, and strawberry + banana toast (with Nutella added). The total came out to $19 for all four items. While that is not terrible, it still felt a bit pricey for the portion size.
The wait time for our food was about 10 minutes, which we felt was very reasonable. Considering that everything is made fresh in a small food truck, we expected it might take longer. The staff worked efficiently, and the time passed quickly while we looked around and talked. Overall, the short wait made the experience smooth and convenient.
The presentation looked very appealing, and everything smelled delicious. We were excited to try the drinks first, but both lattes initially tasted bitter. After mixing them, the banana bread iced latte improved slightly, but the Lucky Charms latte still tasted the same, as it was very watered down. We were a bit disappointed since we expected better based on the reviews.
However, once we tried the food, our opinion quickly changed. The chocolate croissant and the strawberry + banana toast were both amazing. We even switched plates to try each other’s items, and we were both impressed. The food was flavorful, fresh, and carefully prepared. Even though the drinks were not our favorite, the quality and presentation of both the food and coffee showed attention to detail.
Overall, we personally do not think it is completely worth it, mainly because you could find better coffee for the same price elsewhere. Additionally, some of the food items could easily be made at home for less money. However, it may be a great spot for people who prefer strong, less-sweet coffee. Despite the parking limitations and our mixed feelings about the drinks, Chic Chic Cafe is well organized and makes for a good breakfast or dessert stop.
