The varsity Cardinals boys’ soccer team is moving through its season with great determination and confidence. The team opened the season with a victory against Harmony on Saturday, Feb. 14, winning 2–0. The strong performance set the tone for what players hope will be another championship run. After reaching the state final last season and bringing home the trophy, the Cardinals know what it takes to compete at the highest level.

“The season has been going well. We’re currently undefeated in district play, but it has definitely been a challenging beginning of the season,” said center midfielder Varsity captain Elian Cabrera. Cabrera said that the team’s preparation goes beyond just practices on the field. It also contributes to the connection of this team and their communication. “Throughout the season, we’re preparing ourselves both on the field, in the gym, and even in the classroom,” Cabrera said. “We as a team work hard in every aspect, coming in both mentally and physically ready for every game.”

The Cardinals have already faced tough competition this year, taking on strong teams across Texas such as Dripping Springs, Marble Falls, and St. Savio. Facing competitive teams early in the season has helped the Cardinals sharpen their skills and build confidence as they continue their season.

Fullback JV captain Josue Dominguez, emphasizes that the team’s work ethic and mindset have been key factors in their success.

“To win another state championship, we have to keep working hard and showing grit every day,” Dominguez said. “I believe we will once again win the state championship.” Beyond the wins and goals scored, Dominguez believes the Cardinals’ greatest strength is their unity as a team. “We have had our differences, but when we enter the pitch, we become one unit of strong and dedicated players,” Dominguez said. “We’ve shown a lot of grit this year.”Last season taught the Cardinals an important lesson about perseverance and belief. Even through the ups and downs of a long season, the team continued to push forward and ultimately reached the state championship.

With strong leadership, early season victories, and a shared determination, the Cardinals are building momentum. If their work ethic and unity continue throughout the season, the team may once again find itself competing for another state title.

“Anything is possible,” Cabrera said. “To win state, it will take being the best team in every aspect of the game.”
