Is the House of Torment still worth it?

The House of Torment is a spooky, scary event in Austin, Texas, that opens every fall and sometimes during other seasons. This event entertains people who want to get spooked for Halloween season. It has 3 haunted houses, and inside, many workers dress as monsters to scare and entertain attendees. I enjoy going to the House of Torment because it is a good place to go with your friends and family to have fun.

I got to go this year, and I have a lot of mixed opinions about it. One thing I noted was that it stays almost the exact same every year. It can be a pro and con for different types of people because some people who like the original will like this, but some people who like a switch-up might not enjoy this as much. Personally, I don’t enjoy it as much because I already know what to expect. Still, during Valentine’s Day I got a chance to go, and I liked how they switched it up a bit and made it Valentine’s-themed.

The prices were somewhat reasonable and not too expensive. On weekends, it was $36 for all three houses, and a couple of dollars cheaper on weekdays. Food stands around the event sold things like hot dogs. I enjoyed how there were “monsters” scaring people who were outside or about to enter the haunted houses. It gave me an adrenaline rush getting a sneak peek at what I was about to experience.

Going into the haunted houses was fun because there was fog and evil laughs everywhere. I could barely see, but some people carried a light, which helped me walk through some obstacles. “It was scary, but I liked the feeling of walking through the houses and being spooked,” says Brianna Navarette. I also believe it was fun getting scared by the monsters and having to make it through all three haunted houses. Although I didn’t like that they didn’t let us record inside the houses, I liked everything else about the event.
