Every October, KIPP Collegiate’s boys’ and girls’ volleyball teams come together for Pink Out Night, a special game dedicated to spreading awareness about breast cancer. By wearing pink and coming together as a school community, players and fans show their support for those affected by breast cancer and help highlight the importance of early detection, awareness, and support.
This year’s Pink Out Night took place on Friday, October 2, as the girls’ team took on Valor Kyle and the boys’ team faced Idea Parmer Park. The gym was filled with pink as students, families and supporters showed their support for those affected by breast cancer while cheering on the boys and girls’ volleyball, school spirit, and an important cause.
Before the games, a pop-up booth hosted by HOSA’s Breast Cancer Awareness group gave students a chance to participate in trivia, play games, and learn more about breast cancer awareness. The booth added an interactive activity for fans and helped spread the message behind the event. Like every year, this year players also received a new jersey for the special occasion, adding to the excitement of this night.
As the games began, the crowd gathered around the court to support the girls’ team, which fought hard but ultimately lost in four sets (23–25, 22–25, 25–22, and 19–25). Despite the loss, students, families and supporters continued to cheer for the home team. The boys’ team followed with a very strong performance, earning a win in three sets (25–13, 25–9, 25–7) and giving fans another reason to celebrate. Although the results were different, both teams brought energy and effort to the court.
As the night came to an end, PINK OUT Night was about more than just the wins and losses. It was an opportunity for the school to come together, support its athletes, and once again spread awareness about breast cancer. The event showed how sports can bring people together for a meaningful cause.
